Questions and Answers

Q. Is this recall effort registered and legal?

A. Yes. The committee has been registered with the State of Georgia Ethics Commission and bank account has been established at United Commercial Bank. The campaign for recall is being run under the guidelines provided by the State of Georgia Ethics commission and in full disclosure according to law.

Q. Will people know I signed the petition or made a gift?

A. The petition is public record and anyone may request of copy of the petition.

Per Georgia Law, for any single contribution or aggregate total of all contributions from a single donor, per campaign which exceed $101.00, we must report that gift, or the total of all gifts, via a campaign disclosure form that must include your name, address and occupation. It is only when your giving PER CAMPAIGN exceeds $101.00 will the gift(s) need to be reported. Additionally, we cannot accept anonymous donations. Any monies received without proper identification MUST be turned over to the State of Georgia for receipt into the State treasury.

Q. Why isn’t Ed Lowe part of the recall effort?

A. Ed Lowe’s seat is up for re-election in November 2007 and therefore not eligible to be recalled.

Q. How can I help?

A. There are a variety of ways to help, most importantly, serving as a petition circulator, asking your neighbors to sign the petition and asking them to also get involved. There will be periodic gatherings and rally’s to up-date everyone on the efforts, the current status and other events. Volunteers will be needed to help with welcome tables, beverages, name tags, etc. As we get closer to an actual recall vote, volunteers will be needed to call voters, pass out flyers, put up signs, etc.. If you wish to help, please give your name, phone number and email, and address to a volunteer or contact the committee chairperson at the numbers or email addresses listed on the cover.

Q. If I help sign people up, what are my responsibilities?

A. We are requiring all petitioners to carry this recall booklet which provides the specific charges, supporting documentation, as well contact information for the committees. Georgia Law requires that individuals signing the petition must be made aware of and able to review the facts and ascertain for themselves whether the cause is justified. Additionally, petitioners will need to verify that the voter, who is signing the petition, signs their name EXACTLY AS IT DOES ON THE VOTER REGISTRATION LIST. If the voter’s registration card says Michael Johnson Smith III, they must sign their name the exact same way. Voter lists will be provided for each petitioner.

Q. Will we get to vote?

A. Simply signing the petition will not recall either Councilman. It will, if the process is completed, allow for the Citizens of Doraville to vote to recall either Councilman and if recalled, then vote for a suitable replacement.
